The Champions Orphanage

About

In 2003, Donna took a trip to Africa with the purpose of encouraging churches and leaders. After a morning meeting, she was headed back to her hotel to rest and saw a little girl around 5 years old picking food out of the garbage.

She then asked Pastor Isaac Agbeka why the girl would be in that position. Donna learned that there are many kids that have lost both parents. She cried for 3 days.

After praying, God put it in her heart to talk to Pastor Isaac about starting an orphanage. They knew they would need the Lord’s help. Donna felt, “I can’t help everybody, but I can help somebody.”

Soon after, a US donor paid for the property for the orphanage and building started. As donations were gathered the orphanage was able to purchase materials and also build a well. Building materials had to be brought in from Accra so it took over 2 years to become operational.

The doors opened in 2006 and it was initially solely an orphanage. Since then it has evolved to also provide an education and house 27 orphans who live and go to school on site. There are an additional 29 students that the school helps with their education and care.

“The Champions” currently has a total of 410 students that attend. Education is not accessible in Ghana unless it is paid for. Many do not have the opportunity to learn. This growth led to a move from Aflao, Ghana to Accra, Ghana where the location is today. It is still led by Pastor Isaac Agbeka.

The orphanage is now operating but relying solely on gifts of love from others.
